The SCS consists of implanted parts and external parts. There are to implanted electrical leads which are insulated wires that are installed along the spin at key locations. The Implantable Pulse Generator (IPG) contains advanced electronics and a rechargeable battery.
How SCS from Boston Scientific Works:
Pain is an electrical signal that travels along the spinal cord up to the brain. The SCS is implanted in specific areas of the spine that masks the pain signals to the brain.
The masked signal travels to the brain where they are perceived as a tingling sensation called paesthesia. The sensation reduces the feeling of pain.
