Dr. Richard Gerhauser is board-certified in Preventive Medicine, and is a fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine and the American College of Preventive Medicine. He holds masters degrees in both Exercise Physiology and Public Health. He arrived at QLMC by way of the world-famous Canyon Ranch, where he practiced Preventive, Sports, and Nutritional Medicine for over 12 years.
Dr. Gerhauser has performed fellowships in Primary Care Sports Medicine at the University of Arizona, and is Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Arizona Sports Medicine Fellowship Program. He specializes in treating conditions related to musculoskeletal pain, such as sports injuries, auto accidents and arthritis, and is trained in Prolotherapy – injections which strengthen injured tissues and reduce pain.
In his Primary Care practice, Dr. Gerhauser uses a preventive approach through lifestyle modification. Board-certified by the American Board of Physician Nutrition Specialists, he prefers to employ nutrition, detoxification, exercise, stress reduction, hormonal, and herbal treatments before resorting to pharmaceutical drugs to care for symptoms, as he believes drugs rarely address the root cause of a given medical problem.
Dr. Gerhauser has the Heidelberg pH Capsule Test available for patients looking beyond the use of acid-blocking drugs for digestive and other problems. He is also skilled in the use of bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) for improved health and vitality in men and women.
Dr. Gerhauser is the medical director of the Tucson Marathon, and is an accomplished endurance athlete, with open-division victories in the 24-hour Old Pueblo Solo Mountain Bike Race and the El Tour deTucson80-mile race.
